We stayed this past weekend for our anniversary. We were quite happy with our stay. It is a quaint inn, not the Ritz. It's clearly an updated old home with old home charm. Room access is on the outside with no elevator so take that into account when booking. Breakfast is a continental breakfast- nothing fancy, but it will get your day started. There is WiFi and TV's in the rooms. Overall very clean.
BEAUTIFUL views. Lovely porches overlooking the water and the town. Within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and Roanoke Island festival park which is full of rich history, hands on exhibets, and museums.
It is a little pricey and some may say overpriced. I feel like you pay for location and charm. So if those are things you value (like my husband and I do)- than this is the place for you. If you are looking for amenities and perks- I would suggest a name brand hotel on the main strip.

We really enjoyed The Tranquil House Inn for our small (3 siblings and 2 spouses) family gathering. The rooms were nice. The big veranda overlooking the inlet was a big plus. We enjoyed ordering takeout from local restaurants and dining al fresco on the veranda.

We were disappointed that both the website and staff email responses did not advise that the restaurant would not open until our departure. We had asked staff prior to check-in via email for a reservation at the restaurant and staff advised that the restaurant is “first come - first served” without noting that the restaurant was closed on the date that we requested for a reservation. Staff should update the website.
All told, we will be back in the Fall.
