Bank of America Stadium History & Details
Home of the NFL team the Carolina Panthers, Bank of America Stadium is located in the uptown district in Charlotte. Construction began in April of 1994 and the venue opened in September of 1996. When it opened, the stadium’s capacity was 72,685 people, but since the initial opening, several renovations have been made and it can now accommodate up to 74,455 fans. Primarily used for football, the stadium’s surface is grass rather than astroturf and HOK Sports Facilities Group specifically designed for football. Bank of America Stadium had several names from planning to the present time: Panther’s Stadium, Carolina’s Stadium, and Ericsson Stadium. Bank of America got the 20 year naming rights in 2004. In addition to playing host to the Carolina Panthers’ home games, there are two college games that take place there each year: the ACC Championship Game and the Belk Bowl.
