Frederick Stearns House

The Srearns is a beautifully restored manor house in Indian Village, a gracious neighborhood of grand historic homes and tree lined streets a close five miles from downtown, a quiet oasis of old style hospitality. Rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and everything is immaculately clean. There are ample parlors, dining rooms and sun porches for relaxing and socializing, making this an ideal spot for families or groups of friends traveling together. Rachel's breakfasts are imaginative and delicious. Belle Isle is virtually across the street for walks, runs, or pleasant drives. The house is favored by regulars who make it their home base in Detroit, a reasonably priced alternative to the city's noisy, faceless hotels. Highly recommended for the discriminating traveler.

Everything about this place is perfect! Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms, very clean! From the time we were greeted at check-in throughout our stay and when we left every interaction I had with the owner and her daughter was kind and professional. All of our requests were met. They were so accommodating to our group and for the bridal party to have space to get ready. The whole place was beautifully renovated. It's such a gorgeous historical building. I wish I took more pictures of the room. I stayed in the the Rose room Friday night and Dahlia Saturday night. Both were incredibly comfortable and spacious.

We stayed there over the weekend for our Wedding and it was an absolutely the perfect call. The grounds are stunning, the rooms are spacious and comfortable (almost stole a pillow 🤭), and the owners were a peach!! They allowed us to rent out one of the sun rooms for my bridal party and I to get ready in and the lighting was perfect. I seriously can not wait to stay there again 🥰.

My husband and I stayed for a night for a friend’s wedding. Everything was wonderful from the service to the breakfast! Would highly recommend!

I had my wedding at the Frederick Stearns House on August 8th, 2026. The whole process of wedding planning with Rachel was so wonderful and easy. She is so kind and accommodating. I highly recommend The Frederick Stearns House for any event, especially weddings, or even a weekend getaway in Detroit. The rooms are gorgeous and the whole house is breathtaking. We will be returning annually for our anniversary for sure!

I haven't stayed here, but have been here on a house tour and to work a wedding. The property is stunning! It's such a beautiful space for hosting a party, and especially a wedding. It has been exquisitely restored by the family that owns and runs the inn, and it is an artful experience just to admire the art & tudor craftsmanship. The best part of the experience for me was the warmth & kindness with which you are greeted by Rachel, the owner and talent behind the beautification of the house & gardens. The whole family works the place with loving care and it shows! I will be back for a night staycation with my hubby to enjoy the gorgeous rooms.
