We recently went to Detroit for a relative’s life celebration, and as first-time visitors and not knowing the area, we didn’t want to stay right downtown. When I found the Frederick Stearns house, it seemed perfect as far as location and distance to our relatives. We weren't sure what to expect as it was our first experience staying at a historic bed and breakfast, but we honestly enjoyed every moment. The inn is truly remarkable—beautifully restored, full of character, and so welcoming. Our room was incredibly comfortable, especially the bed! We also appreciated the owner (Rachel) and her gracious hospitality. She prepared breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. I came home and immediately tried to recreate the zucchini pancakes—they were that memorable! If our travels ever bring us back to Detroit, the Frederick Stearns House will be our first choice for an overnight stay. It’s such a unique experience and completely different from staying at a corporate downtown hotel – interesting, calm, homey, free parking, and only 3 miles from downtown…it has it all!

This B&B is exceptional! I stayed in the room called the Aster, and it was wonderful. The bedding was so soft, and the tub was a BainUltra with delightful, bubbly jets. I got the hot tub experience right there in my room! Breakfast was yummy, and we ate it on a beautiful sun porch—all windows. This B&B is exceptional! I stayed in the room called the Aster, and it was wonderful. The bedding was so soft, and the tub was a BainUltra with delightful, bubbly jets. I got the hot tub experience right there in my room! Breakfast was yummy, and we ate it on a beautiful sun porch—all windows. The landscaping out front is gorgeous, and the building itself is a beautiful Tudor style mansion with warm hardwood flooring and plenty of fun, elegant spaces. It's got modern touches—not dated feeling at all the way some B&Bs can be. The bathroom was classic and had been completely remodeled with high quality fixtures and tile. The Aster room felt expansive with a whole wall of windows and plenty of space to move around. I was having some trouble from an injury, and the owner thoughtfully moved me to a lower floor with a room upgrade to make my stay more comfortable! Loved staying here! I can't recommend it highly enough. 10/10 stars!

Frederick Stearns house is an incredible place to stay near downtown Detroit. The old mansion was restored beautifully and the gardens are a wonderful addition! If you want a very comfortable stay in Detroit I highly recommend stopping here!

Rachel and Eric are wonderful hosts and so very accommodating. Our daughters wedding was held there this past weekend and this venue is historic and lovely, the speak easy downstairs is charming. A truly beautiful venue for an event or a weekend stay. Thank you for a beautiful stay. Jacalyn Y

My daughter and I stayed one night at the FSH. It’s a beautiful place and Rachel and her family did a stupendous job in restoring it . The bathroom floor was marble and felt so smooth on your bare feet. The bath tub was gigantic and also was a jacuzzi. It was treat . The place was very clean. The garden area was very delightful. The only thing was we had to leave out early and unfortunately there wasn’t any coffee available for us.
