Springbank House

Great intimate stay at a fantastic property. Large house with only three very spacious rooms. Felt like you had the house to yourself. Outstanding breakfast focused on local ingredients. Would definitely stay here again.

Another year, another outstanding stay at Springbank House. The home and the rooms are just as luxuriously appointed as I remember. Again, the most comfortable mattress we have ever slept on along with the softest towels and sheets. Breakfast was to die for - several courses, freshly made each morning with fresh breads, seasonal fruits, eggs, etc. The owners, Geoff and Kim (and their dogs Ridley and Ella) are two of our most favorite people - it was so wonderful to spend time with them and we already miss them. We will be back ... again.

If you cannot get to Europe, this is a rather convincing substitute: beautiful rooms, gracious rituals, exceptional hospitality, and the reassuring sense that someone still remembers how things ought to be done. There are houses one visits, and houses that conspire to make one linger. Here, elegance has not been arranged—it has been tended, protected, and quietly persuaded to remain. Every detail bears the evidence of devotion: to beauty, to grace, to the increasingly endangered art of receiving a stranger well. There is something almost dangerous in such hospitality. One begins by admiring the rooms, the objects, the quiet intelligence of it all—and before long, one has surrendered to the place entirely. We arrived as guests and leave slightly spoiled, considerably charmed, and with our standards now inconveniently raised. Perhaps this is what a beautiful house is meant to do: offer us shelter, pour us something good, remind us that refinement is not extravagance but attention—and then send us back into the world a little less willing to tolerate ugliness. May this house continue its elegant conspiracy. And may its keepers be forgiven for making departure feel like such poor taste.
