West Mountain Inn

Coming off our wedding weekend at the West Mountain Inn, and we can honestly say it was the best weekend of our lives. Choosing the West Mountain Inn was one of the best decisions we could have ever made. Getting to spend an entire weekend celebrating with our favorite people on such a beautiful property was everything we could have hoped for and more. Amie was wonderful throughout the whole process. She made sure everything ran smoothly, offered advice whenever we needed it, and was such a calming presence to have in our corner. The weekend itself was a dream. Welcome s’mores around the campfire on Friday night, yoga in the sunroom Saturday morning, the groom taking a group out for a hike on the property, the most beautiful ceremony and reception spaces, and a delicious goodbye brunch to wrap it all up. And the rain plans were solid, too, which gave us so much peace of mind! And if we haven't done a good enough job explaining how magical this place is, let me paint you a picture: the morning of our wedding, my husband took a group of our friends out for a hike, and one of their dogs, Pepper, led the group for the first half. I mean, come on. It doesn't get more perfect than that. West Mountain Inn gave us the wedding weekend of our dreams, from start to finish. If you're looking for a venue where you can truly spend quality time with your people and make a whole weekend out of celebrating, LOOK NO FURTHER. We would choose this place a million times over!

It was mid-summer when I initially was booking rooms for our October trip. West Mountain Inn, like all the B & Bs, required a minimum 2-night stay. Other hotels were already set on our trip throughout New England. Thankfully, I revisited their website about a week and a half out and found Wes’ Suite had opened up for 1 weekday night. West Mountain Inn was amazing!! I felt like I stepped back in time with the historic decor, but with modern amenities. Wes’ Suite was gorgeous! Because the suite was on the corner, we had views of the woods on two sides and the mountains on one side. I loved the writing desk which housed a journal for guest comments. The TV had a multitude of channels; however, several of the rooms do not have a TV. The Internet was excellent and I could get several of our home TV channels online which was good in case we booked a smaller room next year. The dining area had a table which seated four. The kitchen was fully stocked, so if we had wanted to cook, we could. The king mattress was perfect for my finicky back. The bathroom was large and well-lit with a walk-in shower. There was also a second bedroom with 2 single beds. A funny story about the heating. Since I lived all my life in the south except for my first twelve years, I did not know about forced water baseboard heat. My husband was already asleep. Since the temperatures were plummeting into the 30’s, I turned up the heat. Within a few minutes, I heard a gurgling sound. The sound got louder. Thinking maybe a pipe broke, I woke up my husband who was raised in the north and he laughed. Anyway, once the temperature leveled off, all was quiet again. I had the best sleep of the entire trip! Mary Beth and Maria were outstanding hosts. When we checked in, Maria showed us to our room and explained where things were as well as alternate exits out. The next morning, when I asked about downstairs rooms, Mary Beth was able to show the spacious, handicapped suite. She also answered questions for our two-night stay next year!! Shay was our server in the dining room. She was very good keeping beverages replenished and checking on us periodically without hovering over us. We met the cook on the way out and complimented him on breakfast which was, for me, was the apple pancakes and bacon. My husband had the Ooey-Gooey - eggs sunny-side up with cheese on rye toast and bacon. Prior to the main entrée, we were served a cranberry fritter with our choice of juice and coffee or tea. I can see why this B & B is popular for weddings, business conferences, retreats and reunions. A short walk up a pathway, there is also The Barn which is used for events. According to Mary Beth, some rent the entire property for their event and lodging. River Road runs from the entrance of West Mountain Inn to the Historic Arlington Covered Bridge. It’s a 3.7 mile ride or walk along the Battenkill River where you will find people fishing and a couple of farms enroute. The foliage will not disappoint either! Just past the bridge roadway, is Nolan Farm. John sells pumpkins and gourds of all sizes. Worth the stop. We left with about 25!
