Take in the gorgeous West Virginia scenery during romantic getaways in West Virginia this fall

Perfect for Nature Lovers

If, when you think of perfect romantic getaways in West Virginia, you dream of stunning and colorful mountain views and day after day of adventure with your sweetheart, then the incorporated area Cabins, West Virginia, is for you.

If you choose this charming mountain getaway in West Virginia, you'll be located near the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest. The Monongahela National Forest, located in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains, is one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the country, protecting nearly one million acres of land in the Potomac Highlands.

The Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area encompasses around 100,000 acres of land. It is a spectacular place to enjoy a bit of history combined with exploring the natural world. Here, you'll find several important landmarks of West Virginia, including Spruce Knob, the highest point in the state and the home of some truly exceptional rock climbing.

You've probably heard the adage the couple that plays together stays together. If this describes you and how you like to enjoy romantic getaways in West Virginia, then this portion of the Monongahela National Forest is for you. Here are just a few highlights you can look forward to during your romantic getaways in West Virginia:

  1. Get started at the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center, where you'll learn more about the area's rich history. You'll also enjoy a spectacular view of the vertical wall of rocks known as Seneca Rocks. There's also a fascinating homestead site here worth seeing.
  2. Seneca Rocks are one of the best-known landmarks in the state and are certainly something worth seeing while you're here enjoying romantic getaways in West Virginia. They rise nearly 900 feet above the North Fork River, which, when surrounded by the bright colors of fall, is just beautiful.
  3. Head to Spruce Knob and Climb the Spruce Knob Tower for commanding views of West Virginia. There are few more romantic views to enjoy during your romantic getaways in West Virginia - especially lit in the gentle glow of our favorite Autumnal hues.
  4. Take a hike through the remote and ruggedly beautiful Smoke Hole Canyon. Alternatively, drive through the area's narrow winding roads and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
  5. If you're up for a little drive, Blackwater Falls State Park is only about an hour from Cabins and is absolutely worth the visit in the fall.
  6. Head underground and explore the otherworldly beauty of the Seneca Caverns.
  7. Head to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park for beautiful views along this 11-mile-long heritage railroad.
  8. Take a hike on the popular North Fork Mountain Trail, an incredible 17.5-mile trail that takes you through some of the best scenery in West Virginia.
The charming town of Harpers Ferry is one of the best places to enjoy romantic getaways in West Virginia

Get Historical in Harpers Ferry, WV

If, to you, romantic getaways in West Virginia have more to do with quaint and charming small towns packed with history, as opposed to traipsing through mountain trails, then Harper's Ferry may be the destination for you. The outdoor landscapes here are plenty beautiful, too, so you won't miss the stunning fall foliage the area is known for.

Harper's Ferry is a charming, historic town located in the lower Shenandoah Valley.  It's best known for several important Civil War Battle Sites, but there's so much more to this charming town that meets the eye, too. Below, we've included some of our favorite ways to enjoy your time in Harper's Ferry this fall.

  1. No visit to Harper's Ferry - whether enjoying romantic getaways in West Virginia or not - is complete without putting yourself right in the heart of history where the famed John Brown's Raid took place - an event that is said to have ignited the Civil War. You can do that and more at the Harper's Ferry National Historic Park.
  2. Harper's Ferry sits roughly at the midpoint of the Appalachian Trail - which you can enjoy hiking portions of while you're here.  It's a great way to see this part of the state's scenic beauty. You can also visit the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's headquarters, which is located in Harpers Ferry.
  3. Head to a famous view called The Point, which is located at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers and offers gorgeous views across the waters into Maryland and Virginia.
  4. Head to Jefferson's Rock - a place where the former president stood and proclaimed how beautiful this area was - and enjoy the fall views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River.
  5. Visit St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church - itself worth visiting - but don't miss the views from this perch, which sits high above Harper's Ferry below. It's the only church here to have survived the Civil War.
  6. Visit True Treats Historic Candy in town, where you can find a tantalizing selection of candies through history.
  7. Walk the quaint streets of downtown Harper's Ferry, the entirety of which is designated a National Historic District. The architecture is reflective of what you would've found in this busy transportation hub in the early-mid 1800s.
  8. Explore the legacies of Harpers Ferry's African American Community on this walking tour.

As fun as a packed itinerary is, the best thing to do during your romantic getaways in Virginia - no matter the location you choose - is to relax in the comfortable accommodations found at our Select Registry Inns.  With exceptional hospitality at every turn, we've no doubt you'll enjoy every second of your time reconnecting in our beautiful spaces.  Book your getaway to one of our romantic West Virginia Bed and Breakfasts before it's too late!
