Welcome to Texas

If you’ve been dreaming of a getaway to the Lone Star State, there’s no better time to experience it than right now. Fair warning: Texas is the kind of place you need more than a couple of days to explore. After all, it’s a big state (the second largest in the U.S.), and you simply must carve out enough time to visit big cities and small towns.  Texas has many one-of-a-kind bed and breakfasts that are romantic, on lakes and in the popular Hill Country. Make yourself at home at one of our beautiful bed and breakfasts in Texas and spend each day learning about the area. Educate yourself about the local culture and traditions by visiting museums, going to restaurants, and maybe even a festival or two. And don’t forget to spend some time talking to the locals. That interaction alone will have you so enamored, that you will want to plan a return trip to Texas before you even head back home.

Things to Do & See in Texas

Big cities like Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin are overflowing with exciting things to do, many with rich Texas history and cultural significance. Spend a day at the Dallas Museum of Art or the Perot Museum of Natural History. Take the family to the Alamo in San Antonio or the Space Center in Houston. Of course, the music scene in Austin does not disappoint. Small towns are perfect for experiencing a rodeo, winery or distillery tours, as well as spending a morning at a local farmers market. The Texas Hill Country is a hidden gem full of unique wineries you can tour and take in a wine tasting. A local favorite is Becker Vineyards which sits on over 50 acres of land with special events happening all the time. Still, some of the most awe-inspiring attractions in the state are those created by Mother Nature such as the wide variety of oak trees. Don’t miss Big Bend National Park, the Padre Island National Seashore, Cypress Creek, or the Guadalupe Mountains. In the summer months, you can take a hike or go biking through some of these locations for incredible views and a great workout.

Where to Eat & Drink in Texas

Texas is famous for its hearty food and large portions. T-bone steaks, ribs, buttered corn on the cob, Texas toast, chicken fried steak, and pecan pie are staples. Head to Houston to get your true soul food fix and stop by Esther’s Cajun Cafe & Soulfood to try oxtail and cajun chitterlings. Dishes with a Southwestern influence are just as popular in Texas. Indulge in fajitas or chili (it’s the state dish!), and wash them down with a frozen margarita, which just happened to be invented in Dallas. To try out Tex-Mex staples, be sure to visit El Fenix in Dallas for taco platters and award-winning margaritas. With the Tex-Mex influence, Texas is known to have some of the best margaritas around, including the Prickly Pear Margarita. So be sure to check out the area’s best happy hour depending on where you decide to stay. There is just about something for everyone to enjoy when visiting The Lone Star State of Texas!

Best Time to Visit in Texas

Spring and Fall in Texas offer mild temperatures and are known for their beautiful wildflowers and leaf-peeping, respectively. The weather is very comfortable during this time of the year. These are also popular times of the year for festivals and rodeos, so be sure to check the events calendar when planning your visit. Early summer is perfect for swimming in lakes and rivers, or a trip to one of Texas’ best-kept secrets: its beaches! South Padre Island and Corpus Christi are both popular places to sit back and relax in the sun. The summer months bring on sunshine and heat so be sure to pack sunscreen if you plan to visit during this time. If you’re coming to Texas during the winter months, plan to pack a little of everything so you are prepared for warm days and chilly nights. However, Texas typically does not see much snow, usually with light amounts only occurring in January and February. No matter what time of the year you plan on visiting Texas, there will be something fun for you to do!
