Jail Hill Inn is a boutique luxury inn located one block from downtown historic Main Street, prominently situated overlooking Galena and its stunning countryside. This 140-year old building once served as the county jail for nearly 100 years. Embracing environmental and socially sustainable practices, Jail Hill Inn is proud to have earned the Galena Green Lodging designation. Keeping a strong respect for the earth in mind, we supply Aveda plant-based products in every suite and are pleased to offer our guests two charging stations for their electric vehicles during their stay; a Tesla station and a universal station.
When you stay at Jail Hill Inn in Galena, you will enjoy a wonderful reception of wine and cheese on your arrival and in your suite chocolates and chilled champagne awaits you. After a great night's rest, you will enjoy a 3-course, gourmet breakfast in our 1st-floor dining room. We also have the unique distinction of being the only converted jail out of the 350 Select Registry properties. The 135-year-old, 4-story brick building that served as the county jail for nearly 100 years has been completely renovated in 2015 with amenities that will thrill any traveler. With 45 windows (some 9 feet tall), 14-foot tall, curved brick ceilings, original 4th-floor beams, and unique vaulted ceilings, the history and architectural detail in the building are significant. While staying with us, learn about the Inn's history as the County jail in our lounge area complete with a unique fireplace feature. For your enjoyment, the Inn also features a 3rd story back deck, patio area, and a beautifully landscaped yard to enjoy a glass of wine and relax after a busy day in Galena.

Breakfast is very special at Jail Hill Inn. Breakfast is served each day in the Inn's 1st floor dining room between 9:00-10:00am. Chicago's favorite Intellegensia coffee is ground and brewed each morning, in addition to a fine tea selection and fresh squeezed orange juice.
Breakfast begins with a seasonal first course which may include baked pears in the wintertime or berries, handmade granola and Greek yogurt in the summer months. The second course is our Bakery of the Day, which also celebrates the season with flavors such as pumpkin, cranberry, blueberry or lemon and poppy seed. The third course features either a sweet or a savory breakfast entrée. Entrées may include a vegetable frittata with local grown breakfast meats, a chef's choice omelet or Belgian waffles with a warm fruit compote and vanilla whipped cream.
Jail Hill Inn is eager and delighted to accommodate any dietary needs, from food allergies, diet plans, to food preferences and plain old dislikes, we are excited to prepare menus that fit your needs. During your reservation booking on the website, you can add those comments with your reservation or feel free to call the innkeeper anytime before your arrival and we will also confirm everything when you check in.

After a long day of driving or shopping in downtown Galena, Jail Hill Inn welcomes your arrival with a selection of choice cheeses, fruits and other delectable treats to enjoy. Pair that with a glass of the Inn's select wines or buy a bottle to take to your room. Our wines include selected Riesling, Chardonnay, Malbec, Cabernet or Merlot. Additionally, we will have non-alcoholic beverages, tea, water or coffee. Guests are also welcome to bring their favorite wines, beer or mixed drinks to enjoy during their stay.
