Upper Midwest Bed and Breakfasts & Inns

Home to much of the nation’s agriculture and manufacturing, the Midwest is dotted with charming farm markets, classic American eateries and some of the friendliest folks you’ll ever meet. Whether you’re enjoying a color tour of the Great Lakes, or experiencing Americana across the plains states, the Midwest is worth the trip.

Welcome to Upper Midwest

The Midwest beckons visitors with thousands of its greatest lakes, farmland that nourishes mankind, rugged backcountry, and wide-open prairies as far as they eye can see. Then there are the small towns and major cities, each one with a spirit that reflects the traditions of early settlers as well as the here and now. Don’t forget, the Midwest is also home to some of the best museums, fairs, festivals, and food. Ready to take a delicious bite out of the heartland? Whether your travels take you to Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, or Missouri, the best bed and breakfast in the Midwest awaits. Stay a few days in a luxury B&B overlooking a serene lake, or an inn surrounded by 500 acres of lush countryside, or in the heart of downtown where you can walk to shops and restaurants. Things to Do

Visiting big cities like Chicago and Kansas City are a must. In Chi-town, you can rent a segway and explore the park along Lake Michigan. Or, shop the Magnificent Mile, enjoy the Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute of Chicago, and listen to a little jazz during a night on the town. While visiting Kansas City, stop by the American Jazz Museum, Union Station, and the Crossroads District to explore more than 100 art galleries. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the wilderness and wide open spaces should be explored just as much as the urban areas. For example, don’t miss the chance to explore the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore off of Lake Superior. Kayak the waterways and step on land to hike trails with magnificent views. In the winter, bundle up to explore the ice caves!

Places to Eat and Drink

Food in the Midwest is legendary. If you’re not sure, how about Chicago deep-dish pizza. It’s a household name! Other mouthwatering meals you need to try include cheese curds in Wisconsin, barbecue in Kansas, ribs in Michigan, Swedish Meatballs in Minnesota, and sugar cream pie in Indiana.

Best Time to Visit

Summer is generally the best time to visit the Midwest. Long, sunny days are perfect for boating, hiking, biking, and fishing. But fall is the best time for leaf-peeping. Rent a convertible and put the top down for the full experience. Winter has its advantages, too. It’s the only time of year you can explore ice caves and snowmobile amongst steaming geysers. And spring is the perfect time to catch a glimpse of rushing waterfalls and flowers as they add color in the season of renewal.

Where to Stay

Select Registry properties in the Midwest stretch out across and around the regions plains and lakes. A boutique hotel and an urban inn live off the energy of their cities. B&Bs lie within the shadow of the moonlight streaking off nearby lakes. Country inns - some former farmhouses - are within steps of spring-fed lakes, caves and waterfalls.
