Select Michigan properties include a Victorian country inn, century-old mansion and Michigan’s oldest operating B&B inn.

Welcome to Michigan

The state of Michigan located in the Great Lakes region has the longest freshwater coastline of any political geographical region in the world. A body of water of this magnitude entices nature lovers who are looking for rest and relaxation against a picturesque backdrop. If you are looking for incredible accommodations that meet your discerning needs, you may want to explore some of the best bed and breakfasts in Michigan.

Things to See & Do

A trip to Michigan is not complete without a history lesson. Its many museums will educate you on the state’s ties to mining, agriculture, and logging. Perhaps the state’s best-known economic driver has been its automobile factories. Make plans to stop by the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation and the General Motors Heritage Center for a taste of brilliance and to see how far we’ve come! As you explore the state, take time to notice your surroundings. When you stop to explore century-old covered bridges, you’ll understand the nostalgia. When you climb to the top of a lighthouse for a picture-perfect view of the Great Lakes, you’ll understand the beauty. And when you take in a festival or sporting event, you’ll understand the culture and pride the people of Michigan have for the Wolverine State. If you prefer staying indoors, head over to the largest mall in Michigan, Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, to get your shopping fix.

Where to Eat & Drink

Start off your morning at Real Food Cafe in Grand Rapids for a traditional style breakfast that serves an amazing cinnamon roll pancake that you must try. Also, Detroit-style pizza at Buddy’s has to be at the top of the list of things you must eat during your visit. What could be better than taking a big bite of deep-dish pizza topped with tangy sauce and a heaping helping of Wisconsin cheese? If you’re visiting during the summer, stop at a farmstand to sample some fresh cherries. They’re just the right amount of sweet and tart. If you’re visiting in the fall, stop at Franklin Cider Mill for a glass of fresh apple cider. Don’t forget to try the fresh cinnamon doughnuts. Yum! Perhaps the most unique food you can try is the pasty. This hand-held pie was created by Cornish copper miners. Lawry’s is a great place to try the traditional pasty, which is filled with meat, onions, potato, and rutabagas. But don’t worry, variations abound! To satisfy your sweet tooth, head to M Street Baking Co. in Howell to indulge in intricate milkshakes filled with goodies. Michigan is home to “Beer City, USA” in Grand Rapids which means there are endless breweries you can tour and taste many of the areas award-winning microbrews. A local favorite is Founders Brewing Company where you can sit down and enjoy a craft beer while overlooking the brewing facilities.

Best Time to Visit

If the thought of Michigan makes you think of cold, you’re right. And there are many outdoor adventures to enjoy if you visit in the colder months such as snowboarding and skiing at one of the state’s many resorts. But there’s a side to this state that’s warm and lush and it’s often overlooked. Until now, that is. Visitors flock to the “The Mitten” during the warmer months for its lush foliage, hiking, and lakeside activities. During this time, you can enjoy the beautiful beaches that line Lake Michigan and the warm, but not overwhelmingly hot temperatures. This time of year is perfect for a weekend getaway with close friends or that long awaited romantic getaway with your significant other.
