Romantic Getaways in New England

New England consists of 6 states: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The city hub of New England is Boston, with other major cities like New York City not too far away. Given its proximity to the East Coast's major metropolitan areas, it's genuinely no wonder romantic getaways in New England are so popular.

But proximity isn't the only reason to plan romantic getaways in New England. Up and down the East Coast, you'll find plenty of American history, coastal charm, scenic beauty, and sensational food, not to mention an abundance of Instagram-worthy B&Bs to call home for a few days. Romantic getaways in New England are special, and we think this winter is a great time to get out and explore this uniquely beautiful part of the country.

Escape to Maine

In Maine, you'll find incredible Bed and Breakfasts for a romantic getaway, most of which are on the coast, with a couple being a bit more inland near Portland. From lush natural parks and perfectly-preserved lighthouses to dramatic coastal views and relatively mild coastal weather, there is much to love about romantic getaways spent in Maine this winter.

Plan a Trip to Vermont

Vermont is, perhaps, the most quintessential state for romantic getaways in New England, filled with a variety of charming B&Bs, romantic covered bridges, and stunning mountains and valleys to explore in every season.

Explore New Hampshire

Skiers and nature lovers won't want to miss winter in New Hampshire, where you'll find cozy New Hampshire Bed and Breakfasts. From the mountains to the lakes, it's an exceptional place to enjoy romantic getaways in New England.

More New England Destinations

Whether you want to visit historic Cape Cod or head north of Boston, there are many Massachusetts Bed and Breakfasts to choose from this winter, each of which is perfect for cozy romantic getaways in New England. Similarly, in Connecticut, you'll find charming escapes from the city, while in Rhode Island, there are three cozy retreats just waiting for you, including two in the breathtaking getaway destination of Newport.

In short, it doesn't matter much where you go for romantic getaways in New England. It just matters that you go.  Perhaps you can combine your trip with more than one place and build yourself some Select Registry Rewards while you're at it?  There's one thing we do not doubt:  Wherever you go, and whatever you do, we know you're going to love romantic getaways in New England when you pair them with our Select Registry Bed and Breakfasts.

Embrace the Winter Wonderland

So you've made plans for your romantic getaways in New England. Now, what are you going to do while you're there?  You certainly don't have to do anything - you're free to spend the time cozied up in bed, curled up next to the fire reading your favorite book, or otherwise enjoying your time away unplugged and fully relaxed.  That is, at least in part, what romantic getaways in New England are all about, after all.

New England is a very diverse region, with plenty of things to see and do throughout the year. However, if you feel like venturing outside for a bit of adventure and fun, we have some ideas! In the winter, it's a veritable winter wonderland!  Here are a few of our favorite things to do in New England this winter:

  1. There's something magical about cross country skiing and snowshoeing your way through the snow-covered forests found throughout New England. There are vast numbers of trails, too, and your Innkeeper will be able to give you specific recommendations. One of the top places for this is the Catamount Trail in Vermont
  2. Skiing is another one of those quintessentially New England things to do in the winter, and there's no shortage of places to ski, either!  Consider these top New Hampshire ski resorts, or perhaps enjoy some of the best skiing in Vermont
  3. There are plenty of historical attractions in an area so rich in American history, including the famed Newport Mansions, Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut, and many more
  4. If you're looking for something a bit more unique to do during your romantic getaways in New England, consider trying some dog sledding.  There are places in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at Vermont and others that offer this exciting winter adventure.
  5. Snowmobiling is, of course, a popular winter adventure.  It's a great way to explore New England's winter wonderland together! There are often rentals and sometimes even tours near our Select Registry member Bed and Breakfasts.
  6. Wildlife watching is always one of our favorite things to do in New England, even in winter.  Winter is a great time to see things like bald eagles, snowy owls, and even moose.
  7. Head to the incredible Ice Castles in New Hampshire. It's a great winter activity to share with your loved ones!

Indeed, the couple that plays together stays together, so we think this list is perfect for those seeking exciting romantic getaways in New England this winter.  However, sometimes we really need quality downtime together, and thankfully, that is something we also have plenty of at Select Registry Bed and Breakfasts.  This winter, it is time to explore this sensational area for yourself.  Browse through our collection of Bed and Breakfasts and start planning your romantic getaways in New England today!
