As impressive as these wineries are, there truly are so many other great things to do in Hill Country.

The area boasts an abundance of outdoor adventures like hiking, biking, boating, fishing, and swimming. Moreover, there are several truly charming small towns that are fun to explore. Whatever you’re looking for during your trip to Texas, here are just a few of our favorite things to do in Hill Country.

Consider visiting Garner State Park, where you’ll find great hiking and the crystal clear waters of the Frio River that are perfect for tubing and kayaking. Or, perhaps visit beautiful Pedernales Falls State Park, a great place to swim, hike, and relax. Guadalupe River State Park is a great place to float on the river – one of the most popular things to do in Hill Country in the heat of summer.

The Best Texas Wineries in Hill Country

The Texas Hill Country is famous for more than its wide-open Texas-style views! We’ve already said that one of the top things to do in Hill Country is to go wine tasting – and with so many incredible Texas Wineries within a short day’s drive of cities like Austin and San Antonio, is it any wonder why?

Hill Country is the third-largest wine-growing region in the country and is home to more than 1,000 acres of vineyards serving more than 100 Texas wineries. It’s certainly near the top of our list for “must-visit” wine destinations in 2022.

Many of the top Texas Wineries in Hill Country are located along Texas Highway 290, also known as Wine Road 290. That makes wine tasting pretty convenient and easy, but it can also be an overwhelming experience with many choices. We’ve taken a look at reviews and recommendations from industry-leading experts, including the Innkeepers at our Texas Bed and Breakfasts in Hill Country. We have compiled a list of what we consider 10 of the best Texas Wineries to visit in Hill Country in 2022.

  1. Signor Vineyards is one of the most beautiful Texas Wineries to call Hill Country Home, with a 135-acre vineyard shaded by majestic oak and olive trees. Their wine is just as delicious as the property is beautiful.
  2. Becker Vineyards, a longtime mainstay in the Texas Hill Country, is the largest purchaser of premium Texas grapes. Though their wine is delicious, their lavender farm is equally worth visiting!
  3. Sit back, relax, and take in the sunset views at Driftwood Estate Winery while sipping an exceptional glass of wine.
  4. The Slate mill Collective is a relative newcomer to Texas Wineries, but it’s one we think is worth adding to your list for 2022. A number of their wines have won top awards in recent years.
  5. When it comes to Tuscan-inspired Texas wineries, you can’t beat Duchman Winery. The wines are superb, and so is their Italian Restaurant, Trattoria Lisina.
  6. Flat Creek Estate is our pick for a great off-the-beaten-path alternative. There’s great food here, and the wine selection is top-notch.
  7. Kuhlman Cellars offers a delicious range of wines, each of which comes from hand-tended vineyards and celebrates a well-balanced fruit that is full of flavor.
  8. Learn about sustainable wine practices while sipping wine at Calais Winery, which focuses exclusively on Bordeaux-style wines made with 100% Texas-grown grapes.
  9. Pedernales Cellars sits on 154 acres of rolling hills punctuated by live oak trees and stunning views of the Pedernales River Valley. They solely focus on grape varietals that grow well here and have earned themselves quite a bit of national recognition among Texas Wineries in Hill Country.
  10. If you’re looking for a leisurely wine-tasting experience in Hill Country, head to the Texas Wine Collective in Fredericksburg. Here, you’ll find the wines of McPherson Cellars from Lubbock, Brennan Vineyards from Comanche, and Lost Oak Winery from Burleson. It’s a great place to sample a variety of wines, and they also offer wine pairings with Texas-made chocolate or Texas-made cheese.

As you can see, there’s an incredible range of things to do in Hill Country this year. Isn’t it time you visit? Book a room at one of our top-rated Texas Bed and Breakfasts today!
