The Mystic Seaport Museum is the most visited attraction in Mystic, CT, and for good reason.  The museum was established in 1929 and encompasses more than 60 historic buildings, many of which have been meticulously restored. More than 250,000 people come through this museum every year.

There are plenty of things to see and do at the Mystic Seaport Museum. Here are some of the most popular features of the museum:

  1. The most famous ship at the Mystic Seaport Museum is Charles W. Morgan, which is the only surviving wooden sailing whaler, and one of four boats at the museum that are listed as National Historic Landmarks.
  2. There is a working shipyard at the Mystic Seaport Museum, which is a very important part of the complex. It’s here that traditional tools and techniques are used to preserve the museum’s historic vessels.
  3. Browse the historic recreation (with actual historic buildings) of a 19th-century seafaring village.  Here, you’ll find a variety of trades associated with shipbuilding, including ship smiths, coopers, woodcarvers, and riggers.
  4. Visit Mystic Seaport’s planetarium, in which you’ll learn how seamen used stars for navigation.
  5. Get out on the water itself!  Self-guided and guided tours are offered throughout the summer on various historic boats.

General admission to the museum is offered 7 days a week, and tickets can be purchased in advance on their website or in person.  This August, you’ll also have the chance to visit the 2021 Wooden Boat Show.
