Best Things to do in Tucson This Winter
Located in the vast expanses of the Sonoran Desert, which covers much of the American southwest and northern Mexico, you’ll find the charming city of Tucson. `The Sonoran Desert is the most complex desert ecosystem of its kind, and accordingly, is home to a great diversity in geological structures as well as plants and animals.
But unique natural beauty aside, there are also many things to do in Tucson, especially during these winter months when most of the country is mired in cold, wintry weather. Tucson receives 350 days of sunshine each year, but it’s so much more than a warm-weather escape!
From great museums and attractions to unbeatable food, there are some fascinating things to do in Tucson. Here are a few of our favorites!
- Eat, eat, and eat some more! Sampling the cuisine – especially the delicious authentic Mexican cuisine – is one of our favorite things in Tucson. Foodies won’t want to miss the Best 23 miles of Mexico Cuisine, not to mention the other excellent Tucson restaurants. It has been named a Unesco City of Gastronomy for a reason.
- With 350 annual days of sunshine, it probably comes as no surprise that Tucson is a golfer’s paradise. There are more than 40 golf courses in Tucson, making it one of the most popular things to do in Tucson all year long.
- Get out for an adventure. Tucson is an excellent place for both road and mountain biking, and the weather is mild enough year-round to enjoy it whenever you want to.
- With endless miles of trails suitable for hikers of all levels, getting outside for a bit of hiking is arguably one of the best things to do in Tucson this winter. There are five mountain ranges nearby, and the wonderful Saguaro National Park is near town and worth exploring.
- Head underground for a unique experience at Colossal Cave Mountain Park or Kartchner Caverns State Park – certainly one of the most unique things to do in Tucson this winter!
- Visit the Tucson Botanical Gardens, and gain a new appreciation for these beautiful desert landscapes.
- Admire the magnificent architecture and the collision of Spanish and Tohono O’odham cultures at Mission San Xavier del Bac.
- Another one of our favorite things to do is to shop our way through historic downtown Tucson. The trip is made even more accessible with rides on the 3.9-mile Sun Link Tucson Streetcar.
- Visit the Pima Air and Space Museum, one of the world’s largest aerospace museums and probably one of the most extraordinary things to do in Tucson this winter. It houses a collection of more than 300 aircraft.
- Enjoy some night sky stargazing at Kitt Peak National Observatory. Tucson has regulations in place to keep its night skies as dark as possible, and the benefits of this are immeasurable. It’s by far one of the most magical things to do in Tucson.
