Ski at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort
Though there are quite a few places to ski in Upstate New York, and up and down the eastern seaboard, for that matter, there’s nothing that quite compares to the legendary slopes at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort. It is heralded as Upstate New York’s premier ski resort, and for a good reason. It’s located just 13 miles from Lake Placid, too, which means it’s easy to get up and to the mountain when you want to ski, and it doesn’t take forever to get back to your accommodations (or to dinner) when you’re done.
With a vertical drop of more than 3,400 feet and 90+ trails for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy, there’s what feels like endless fun to be had on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort. This is the biggest vertical drop of any ski resort east of the Rockies!
The ski season is already underway at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort – and so far, it’s been great. Not all lifts are open yet, but snowmaking is underway, and the season looks promising. For the 2021/2022 season, it’s still best to buy tickets online and in advance, as they may sell out – especially during popular weekends and breaks. During holiday periods, walk-up tickets won’t be available.
There’s also plenty of excitement coming to Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort this December. The U.S. Olympic Trials and Nordic Combined & Ski Jumping will take place on December 24th and 25th. The event will occur at the Olympic Jumping Complex and Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid. Tickets are currently on sale.

- If you miss being able to head outside for a hike, don’t fret! There are some fantastic snowshoeing trails in the Lake Placid area, not to mention much of the Adirondacks. Snowshoeing might be one of the most magical ways to experience Upstate New York’s winter wonderland.
